END TO END WITH ARTHUR

On Thursday 21st July Arthur completed his bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats. He rode 916 miles in thirteen days (average 70 miles per day). Siobhan, Tom, Edward, Imogen and Flora drove in the support vehicle and occasionally needed to provide directions through some towns or shelter from the headwinds north of Ayr. We were very lucky with the weather and only had one morning of torrrential rainfall. At the end of each day Arthur still seemed to have a fair amount of energy left, even trying to water ski on the Moray Firth east of Inverness when we met up with his godfathers one evening. Our last night in Scotland was spent with Cherry and Bill at Latheronwheel which was a huge treat for all of us. We arrived safely home last night after after a twelve hour slog on the south bound route. It was a great trip and of course our congratulations go to Arthur. But also praise is due to Edward, Imo and Flora for their patience sitting in the car for day after day as we tracked Arthur's route.

FURTHER GLORY

Still bathing in the glory of last Sunday's cricket match we get more good news. Trevor the younger has passed his driving test. "What, did it take that long?", I hear you say. Er yes. First person to email George with the deliberate mistake in the photo gets a pint or the equivalent.

Paul wins, but Trevor was borrowing George's driving licence for illustrative purposes only.

THE MAGNIFICENT 11

Whilst Arthur completed the first leg of his bike ride the length of mainland Britain, other Keelings: Trevor, Simon, Jim, Paul, Harry, Archie, Luke, Zak and Josh helped by the steady Charley and Tom battled it out against team Sedlescombe on the cricket field. The Keeling team fielded first and the Sedlers hit 189 runs in 2 hours 20 minutes. Exceptional bowlers were Tom and Luke. We were afraid. Until, after tea, Captain Paul (48) and Charley (42) opened our batting with a partnership of 113 (there were quite a few byes, wides etc). After that we felt invincible and we were. In all, only five wickets fell by the time we reached 191 in 2 hours. We had won.

With George keeping the tally, does that make it the 'Dirty Dozen'?
